Water Wise Initiatives

DRIEST YEAR EVER

"Perth has recorded it's driest year on record" Sunday Times, 31 December, 2006  And in 2009, nothing has changed!

A statistic that should concern us all!

Northam endures some extreme weather conditions and here at Brackson House we are extremely water conservation conscious and make every endeavour to reduce water consumption.

As we go about reviving and in some cases replacing unsuitable plantings in the previously existing neglected garden and developing other areas, we are ever aware of this with plant selection being all important.

Currently we recycle all of the grey water from the laundry onto the courtyard and other garden areas and whilst we have not installed timing devices to limit hot water service to our guest rooms (unlike some other accommodation) we do ask our guests to be mindful of ablution time, particularly as, even with water flow restrictors installed, the pressure is high and in winter especially, there is a tendency to  enjoy the shower for just that minute or two longer....please don't.

We are hopeful that in the near future we will have installed several rain-water tanks to collect roof run-off from natural rainfall and direct that onto other garden areas.  In the meantime, strictly observing the water restrictions, we use limited amounts of scheme water and supplement it with ground bore water.
